Van plant naar pot

Stoffels’ tomato sauce is based on a generations-old tradition of using up surplus produce after a hot summer to make a juice that will last through the winter. During periods of overproduction, Stoffels makes delicious sauce with tomatoes that are at the pinnacle of their flavour. Tomatoes with a not-so-perfect appearance also end up in the jar. The sauce is made by boiling tomatoes in an entirely natural way, coarsely filtering the result and pasteurising. This helps to preserve the flavour as well as the velvety texture of the tomatoes. The tomato sauce that is ultimately produced is then finished, undergoes strict quality control and is then placed into nice-looking jars while it’s still warm. The result is a sauce to be savoured.

Toma’amoris is a flavourful, pure sauce with a slight hint of spice that is suitable for a wide variety of different dishes. It’s the ideal base sauce for pasta dishes, sauces and soups and the kind of sauce that will quickly become a master chef’s favourite.
- Petra Veldman

This local tomato sauce is made from 100 per cent Belgian tomatoes and is entirely natural. Free from preservatives, added sugars, flavour enhancers and colourings. It’s also gluten-free and suitable for vegans! With a nutrient score of A, Toma’amoris* is also amongst the healthiest sauces you can find for sale.

*Toma’amoris is derived from the word ‘poma amoris’ or ‘the love apple’, a historical name for the tomato.

Why a sauce?

Stoffels Tomatoes is always on the lookout for circular streams that slot into our sustainability story. In tomato growing too, we examine ways to generate as little waste as possible, and to convert waste streams into raw materials wherever possible. We grow on a coir substrate, for example – coir is a waste product produced during coconut cultivation. This organic soil is home to good fungi and bacteria that ensure a natural balance and render the use of fungicides unnecessary. This terroir is also largely responsible for the flavour of the tomatoes. In the meantime, we have even begun processing plant residues into packaging, while the production of high-quality tomato sauce fits into our business philosophy perfectly. Not every fruit manages to pass the strict quality controls for tomatoes to be sold as fresh produce. But if only the colour, shape or firmness are abnormal, the fruit can be processed into a derivative product.
